Qualifications for members[edit | edit source]
A person is qualified to become a member of the House of Ordinaries if the person:
- (a) is enrolled as an elector under subsection 30(1); and
- (b) meets any further requirements as provided under law.
Relevant note from the Explanatory Memorandum[edit | edit source]
134. This section ;sets out some basic qualifications for election as a member. An elector for members of the House of Ordinaries is eligible to run for election, subject to any further laws. Like the corresponding section in the Australian Constitution, this section effectively grants a legislative power to the Parliament to impose extra requirements.
