<span id="s1"></span>(1)  The Parliament may appropriate monies from the Consolidated Revenue Fund for allowances for the members of the Houses of the Parliament, and subject to this subsection&nbsp;(2), a member shall receive the allowance so appropriated, to be reckoned from the day on which the member takes the seat of the parliamentary membership to which the member is chosen.

156. Subsection&nbsp;(1), based on the section&nbsp;48 of the Australian Constitution, makes provision for the allowances of members of Houses of the Parliament.  Subsection&nbsp;(2) provides that members serve on an honorary basis unless the benefit is also an approved benefit falling in [[Constitution of Urabba Parks/Section 90#item1|item&nbsp;1 of the table in subsection&nbsp;90(3)]].  In order to be an approved benefit under that item&nbsp;it has to be approved by an independent remuneration authority (see [[Constitution of Urabba Parks/Section 90#EM|the note&nbsp;on section&nbsp;90]]).
